Kick-off

BACK TO OUR BLOGĀ

Hi all,

It is an honour to write the first blog on our project website. A few weeks ago we decided to get involved in the project in Guyana. After a meeting with a member of the Dutch Risk Reduction team who went to Guyana last year and a meeting with our supervisor from Delft a conference call with Georgetown was organised.

Although it was just a first introduction the atmosphere was good from the first moment. We were joined by 5 representatives from Guyana which where representing the University and both the ministiry of Agriculture and Public Works. After a first introduction and a short talk on a few logistical manners, we had a talk on the content of the project.

Our task in Guyana will be for the largest part improving the modeling capacity of the Guyanese society. To achieve this goal a model has to be made which can be used on the long term in Guyana. Also measurements have to be executed. The Guyanese officials have very kindly offered to execute the first measurements in the rainy season, so there is already some data available when we arrive. Now it is our task to make a plan for the weeks that we will be in Guyana. In the coming weeks we will work on this plan and we hope to deliver it at the end of March.

The conference call was a promising start of the project and we are greatly motivated to get started!

Kind Regards,

Joost Remmers
