My name is Thijmen Jaspers Focks. Last year I finished my bachelor Civil Engineering and started my master in Structural Engineering. Besides Civil Engineering, I also study Computer Science at the TU Delft. For the last few years I have been studying the theorem behind material behavior, dimensioning of structures and multiple other subject within civil engineering on a basic level. I have some experience with casting concrete, but I would like to gain more practice in the field.
Therefore I decided to start this project with an amazing group. My main goal is to learn a lot about the country, the way Guyana currently handles there water distribution and to find out what can be improved on both the short term and the long term in order to make the city of Georgetown saver for her inhabitants and protect the people against floods or other water related problems or inconveniences.
My personal focus during our stay in Guyana will be the structural assessment of the different elements within our subsystem. Meaning, together with Peter Vijn, I will be responsible for locating the weak/corroded parts of structural elements like sluices. We will do our best to find a way to improve these elements by advising restauration works or replacement. -
