In the news!

BACK TO OUR BLOG

Hi all,

Good night. It is an honor to write the second blog on our website. In this blog, I’ll give a small update on the project. Exactly one year ago, we decided to start the preparations of a study project abroad, that would take place in the summer of 2016. After some time to reflect during the summer holiday, we came together and we all agreed to start this project.

In September, we kicked off. The first challenge was to find a suitable project. This wasn’t that easy, since we have a relatively large group. Fortunately, some professors of Delft University of Technology helped us. We got in touch with some people on different continents. After the Christmas holidays, we had enough information to make a choice: Guyana it was!

We read the documents of the DRR team, that visited Geogetown in November 2015. Also, we made a conference call with representatives from Guyana, the Dutch embassady in Paramaribo and the DRR team. This call was very promising; the people from Guyana were very friendly and looked forward to our visit. Their enthusiasm infected us. We booked flights, made a website, started a Facebook account and so on. We also wrote a work plan, in which we stated what our goals for our visit to Guyana are. We used the feedback from Guyana, the DRR team and our supervisor to finetune the workplan. We’ve just finished this report and sent it to Guyana. At the moment, we’re making the last preparations for our visit. These are amongst others applying for some visa, funds, making a planning and testing the measuring equipment.

Although we did not arrive in Guyana yet, our project was in the news twice. The last time was last Saturday. We’re glad that our project gets attention! This states the importance of such a project, that should increase the modelling capacity and the (theoretical) knowledge on the discharge system. The article can be found HERE

For now, we’d like thank you for reading this blog. We’ll arrive in Georgetown on Sunday the 24th of July. During the project, we’ll keep you updated with this blog during our stay. Also, we are going to post pictures and posts on our Facebook page
